Directions 121 and 122 replace Direction 119, splitting the skilled visa processing order in two
Direction 121 formally revoked Direction 119 on 19 September 2026, after just eight weeks in force. The single processing order under Direction 119 is now split in two: Direction 121 for the Skills in Demand (subclass 482) visa, and Direction 122 for the provisional and permanent skilled visas (subclasses 186, 187, 189, 190, 191, 489, 491, 494, 887 and 888). The priority sectors now include agriculture, aquaculture, fishing and resources alongside construction, healthcare, teaching, law enforcement and defence, and no longer require an onshore location to reach the top tier. The Skills in Demand visa's Specialist Skills stream gets a dedicated second tier. Both new Directions apply to every application already on hand, not just those lodged from 19 September. A processing order changes when a case is looked at, not whether it succeeds.
