Four things you can verify

You should not have to take any agent's word for it. Here is what applies to us, and where it comes from.

Registered with OMARA

Section 280 of the Migration Act 1958 says a person who is not a registered migration agent must not give immigration assistance, with limited exceptions such as Australian legal practitioners. Search MARN 2619611 on the public register.

Qualified in migration law

Our agent holds a Graduate Diploma in Migration Law from Victoria University, and is regulated by the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority (OMARA).

Professionally insured

Section 27 of the Migration Agents Code of Conduct requires professional indemnity insurance. We hold this cover.

Bound by a Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct bars false or misleading statements about an agent's qualifications or immigration opportunities. Our complaints process is published on this website.

How it works

What working with us looks like

Each step reflects a duty in the Migration Agents Code of Conduct, so you know what to expect from us.

  1. 1

    Book an initial consultation

Choose a time online or call us. You see the fee before you confirm.

  2. 2

    Hear your options plainly

We look at your circumstances and explain the visa options that may fit, including what stands in the way. If an application would be futile, we will tell you. You receive an invoice and a receipt for the consultation.

  3. 3

    Sign a written service agreement

If you go ahead, the work and the fees are set out in a written agreement signed by you and our agent, before that work starts and before we take any payment for it (sections 42 and 51). You also receive OMARA's consumer guide (section 38).

  4. 4

We prepare your application and keep you informed

We tell you in writing when something is lodged, give you a copy, and promptly advise you of material developments (section 39). You receive itemised invoices and receipts (section 49), and client money is kept in a separate account (section 50).

Perth and the law

Why your Perth postcode can matter

For some skilled visas, where you live and work is a legal requirement, not only a lifestyle choice.

Perth is a designated regional area

Under LIN 22/022, Western Australian postcodes including 6000 to 6038, 6050 to 6083 and 6090 to 6182 are a designated city or major regional centre, which covers much of greater Perth, including Gosnells (6110). Every other WA postcode is a regional centre or other regional area.

Subclass 491 and 494 visas

A Subclass 491 holder must live, work and study only in a designated regional area while in Australia (condition 8579). Subclass 494 holders have a similar requirement during the regional residency period.

State nomination in Western Australia

Nomination by Western Australia is decided by the WA Government, under its own program and lists. You can read the current rules at Migration WA, and we can explain how nomination fits with your visa options.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check that a migration agent in Perth is registered?
Search the agent's name or MARN on the public register on the OMARA website. Our agent's MARN is 2619611, and you can open our entry on the register.
What is the difference between a migration agent and an immigration lawyer?
A registered migration agent is registered under the Migration Act 1958 and regulated by OMARA. An Australian legal practitioner can also give immigration assistance in connection with legal practice. BIG STEP is a migration agent's practice, not a law firm.
Where is your Perth office?
At 178 Corfield Street, Gosnells WA 6110, in Perth's south-east suburbs. We are not in the Perth CBD. Office visits are by appointment only, and we are unable to see walk-in visitors, so please book a time before you come.
Do I need to be in Perth to work with you?
No. We can meet online if you are elsewhere in Australia or overseas.
How much does a consultation cost?
A migration consultation is a paid appointment, and you see the fee before you confirm your booking. Any further work is set out in a written service agreement. Our Fee Guide lists government charges and our indicative professional fees.
Can we speak in Urdu?
Yes. Consultations are available in English and Urdu. If you need another language, ask us and we will arrange an appropriately qualified interpreter. You may need to pay for that assistance.
Does Perth count as regional for visa purposes?
For the Migration Regulations' term "designated regional area", yes: Perth postcodes are listed in LIN 22/022, which is why Subclass 491 and 494 visa holders can live and work there. Each visa has its own other requirements, and we can check them against your situation in a consultation.
